Apart from the huge cost of dredging a lake there are other disadvantages. The disruption to your surroundings is aways a problem and the cost to wildlife is incalculable because, when you throw away the bad stuff, you are also throwing away beneficial life from within your lake. This has a devastating effect upon the natural balance of the lake.
If you use the kinder, Aquaplancton method, not only is the cost to you less, but also the life within your lake is preserved and the environment is protected.
Ponds need approximately 25kg of Aquaplancton for every 50 sqm but lakes need less, usually a pallet per acre (40 bags) which can be spread from a small boat or poured in front of the propeller of an outboard motor. Large lakes are a lot more stable than small ponds so therefore one treatment is usually sufficient.
You only need to apply the initial dose once. This will then be active for at least a year, sometimes several years. The activity doesn’t suddenly stop, but it does begin to slow down. So, if you are happy with the result and you don’t want it to get back to the way that it was, you can give it a smaller top-up dose, about 1/3 of the initial dose at the end of the year or the following spring, just to keep the whole process ticking over.
I feel I must write and reiterate all the praise your product has already received. Our large natural pond was a complete eysore – matted green and smelly. We had tried everything on the market and were beginning to despair of ever having a lovely clean pond you see on TV and in the gardening magazines. But miracles do happen and I enclose two photographs showing before and after. This transformation took place within 5 weeks and we are thrilled. I do hope this miracle continues, but so far so good. Last summer I used 19 bags of Aquaplancton on my ¼ acre lake. The blanket weed was solid across the whole surface of the water. I thought the trout would suffer from lack of oxygen. Not a bit of it, they thrived better than ever before and ate their trout pellets voraciously. As the remains of the weed turned black, I fished out as much as I could and by October the water was gin clear. At this moment the lake is in excellent condition. I am delighted with the results.
